Public health department accreditation was developed on an overarching principle of health equity to ensure that all people who live in the United States have access to high quality public health services. Accreditation standards address health equity, and accredited health departments can now report on their health equity performance. PHAB’s newest division, the Public Health National Center for Innovations, explores insights into health equity and related innovations. Health departments can leverage their accreditation work to enhance their commitment to health equity and improve the determinants of health for their communities.
